Bröhan Total! A special exhibition
In 2021, the founder of the Karl H. Bröhan museum would have been 100 years old. The big anniversary is the occasion of a large-scale anniversary exhibition: the collection will be presented in an original and unprecedented way throughout the exhibition space of the Bröhan-Museum. the period rooms of French Art Nouveau , the reformist conceptions of German Art Nouveau, Art Deco and functionalist design of the 1920s.
Paintings from the Berlin Secession as well as unusual collection blocks – animal figurines for example – are also on display. In addition, selected acquisitions of recent years bear witness to the evolution of the collection. Paintings, graphic arts, furniture, porcelain as well as the art of metal and glass will be on display. On this occasion, the Bröhan-Museum was also able to acquire, thanks to a private donation, a large-format painting by Franz Skarbina, which will also be exhibited.
Additionally, in June 2021, the museum received a large donation from a private collection – a collector from Berlin-Schöneberg donated over 100 colored glasses by Munich designer Jean Beck (1862-1938) to the museum that had once inspired to start collecting. . The glasses are now presented for the first time. The phenomenon of “satellite collections” – collections directly inspired by the Bröhan-Museum – is also explored in the exhibition through the example of two other collections.
For the first time in the history of the Bröhan-Museum, there is also a contemporary art intervention with works from the collection: the internationally renowned performance artist Nezaket Ekici takes a new look at the works of the museum during of the exhibition – by engaging with the Bröhan-Museum’s porcelain collection, she creates a performance installation at the museum.
