Despina Hallock | Republican-American
WATERBURY – Despina Hallock, 95, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at Complete Care-Glendale Health Care on Tuesday July 12, 2022. She was known as Tina to her friends and Yia Yia, or Mumsy, to her family. She was the widow of Homer Hallock.
Mrs Hallock was born on September 4, 1926 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Stavros and Lemonia (Manolou) Triantafillos. She was educated at local schools and worked for several manufacturing companies in the area, the most notable being International Silver, in Wallingford.
Despina’s favorite hobbies were ceramics and crafts. She has made so many beautiful ceramic pieces for family members, Christmas and other holidays. She decorated her home inside and out with love and devotion every Christmas, which was by far her favorite holiday.
As far back as we can remember, she built her small but beautiful Christmas village every year. She loved to cook and her Greek pastries and Easter dinner traditions will be carried on by her children for generations.
She loved to travel and left many memories of the trips she made in the United States and abroad, having visited many European countries with her friends.
Despina liked to shop. They wrote the saying “shop till you drop” just for her. Everyone, at one time or another, would go with her and see the joy she would get from buying “just one more bobble head”. Her house was filled with all sorts of figurines and other gossipy stuff that we would lovingly tease her about.
Despina loved to garden. She spent countless hours gardening and tending to her flowers until her 95th birthday. She was a strong, independent woman who took care of herself and others throughout her life, taking great pride in all that she did.
She was devoted to her family and her faith as a longtime member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Waterbury. Despina lived her life to the fullest, blessed with the love of her family and friends.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory are his children, Mary Lawrence and her husband, Kevin, of Waterbury, Anthony Hallock and his wife Sharon, of Oakville, and Hope Scursso and her husband Ralph, of Georgia; his grandchildren, Michelle Lawrence, Kevin Lawrence and Anthony Hallock Jr.; and her great-grandchildren, Jayden Thomas, Evan Hallock and Emily Hallock; as well as several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a very dear friend, Joanne, who considered Tina a mother.
She was predeceased by her sister, Catherine Symons and her brother, Steve Triantafillous.
Rest in Peace Mom/Yia Yia and don’t forget: “Watch your toes.
