Meditate remains undefeated in Debutante

Meditate maintained their undefeated record with a straight win in the Alpha Centauri Debutante Stakes at The Curragh.

Last seen winning the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot where she beat another Group 2 winner at Mawj, she had just returned from a 64-day break.

While at the pole of two stadia Olivia Maralda seemed to briefly travel the better of the two, Ryan Moore had yet to ask for everything.

Joseph O’Brien’s Thornbrook also emerged as a threat, but Moore was just waiting for the right moment to push the button.

When he did, the response was pretty immediate and Meditate started to stretch.

There was a brief moment of alarm in the final 100 yards when the 8-13 favorite stumbled, colliding with the rail, but she still held Olivia Maralda back by three-quarter lengths.

Coral cut Meditate to 10-1 from 12s for next year’s 1000 Guineas behind 8-1 favorite and stable mate Statuette.

“It was her first time out of seven, but she’s so laid back and travels in second gear,” O’Brien said.

She looks like a very exciting filly right now

“She was very fresh even on the way down and it had been a while since she had run. She even spotted the photographer going to the line.

“We always thought seven years was not going to be a problem for her. She knocks on the doors very quickly but relaxes and is happy to sit within arm’s reach. She is very professional and only gives you what you ask for.

“The plan was to come here and get the Moyglare and that’s what we hope to do.

“Ryan said this trip was no problem and he thought further afield wouldn’t be a problem. She’s looking like a very exciting filly at the moment.
